Summertime

21 Jun

My piano students wrapped up the year with an informal outdoor recital on my back patio last Saturday – the weather was perfect, and it was great to see everyone show off their progress from the past ten months. Congratulations to all the students on performances well done!

After a busy year of teaching and gigs, I’m excited to leave on a 2-month cross-Canada summer tour with the Lemon Bucket Orkestra this weekend! I’m most looking forward to hitting up the east coast as well as my hometown of Calgary, though I anticipate fun times will be had throughout the country. Happy summertime!

Juno nom?!

17 Feb

Though I am a rather recent recruit to the ensemble, I’m stoked to hear that my band Lemon Bucket Orkestra was nominated for a JUNO award for “World Music Album of the Year” for their debut record “Lume, Lume”. It’s a great privilege to be involved in a group that has so much heart; a lot of hard work went into that album, and I’m looking very much forward to being a part of whatever this year has in store for them!

September arrives

2 Sep

It’s finally September – the return of shorter days, pumpkin spice lattes, and the “back-to-real-life” routine. I am excited at this time of year for new beginnings (despite the fact school is long gone for me), new challenges and new opportunity.

One of the things I most look forward to is the return to my regular teaching schedule. I am eager to see my students again, both old and new, and look forward to assisting in a new year of musical accomplishment by all!

Check out my Lessons page for information on piano, trombone and theory instruction. Happy September!

Brass Weekend

11 Jan

I’m looking forward to checking out one of my favourite trombonists tonight. Wycliffe Gordon is doing a free clinic at U of T this evening, and he is also featured in a concert tomorrow night at Koerner Hall with other brass aficionados. It’s always a treat to see such inspirational musicians up close!

Photoshoot!

9 Feb

Taking advantage of the unseasonably warm (ish) weather this past Monday, I got to hang downtown on King Street and get my picture taken by the talented Taylor Oakes. (Check out her stuff: www.oakesproductions.com)

One of my faves:

Despite the sunshine, my fingers almost froze to my horn. Other than that it was a fun afternoon!
